About the Toy

TOMY Constructables is a vehicle construction set that comes in 17 pieces. The preschooler can assemble the pieces to create many different vehicles -- race car, helicopter, train, and airplane or s/he can create a unique vehicle. One of the pieces (the main piece to be used in each vehicle creation) is motorized. Constructables is a good toy for developing motor skills and exercising your preschooler's imagination.

Constructables was a great concept that was poorly implemented. My son and I loved constructing the many different vehicles, but after numerous crying fits because it fell apart, yet again, I threw it in the trash.

The Pros

Constructables is brightly colored and allows for creating dozens of vehicle combinations.

The Cons

Although Constructables is a fun toy, it is also a frustrating and annoying toy. It takes some patience to get the pieces together since they connect by small square-shaped inserts.

Because of the manner in which the pieces connect, it doesn't hold together very well. The race car is particularly a nuisance in that there is a connection of two pieces right in the center of the main body of the race car - right where pressure is placed to push the race car around; therefore, it comes apart each time your preschooler tries to play with it.

Turning on the motor of the main piece is an absolute no-no. When the power is switched on, making it motorized for movement, it makes a loud, fast clicking sound. I took the 1 "AA" battery out of it because the noise was driving me bonkers.

My recommendation is to find vehicle construction set from another toy manufacturer. Discovery Toys has a similar vehicle construction set - Formulate - however I have not had personal experience with their toy.
