"I am writing to you on behalf of my wife. She is a wonderful woman who never ceases to amaze me and really, really deserves this getaway. We met in 2000 and she promptly quit her job and moved across the country with me to pursue my dream job. When I got laid off after a few years, she quit her job and again moved across the country with me (we were married at this point with a newborn) to pursue another job. She has now foregone the workplace in order to stay home and raise our two wonderful daughters (ages 19 mos and 3 yrs).
Where we live now, our closest family is hours away even by air. Being relatively new to the area, we have few friends and my wife has few opportunities to meet new people without kids in tow. Without friends or family to get out with, my wife has little reason to leave the house unless she has to take the kids somewhere. During the week she spends so much time on the kids, taking them to classes, playing with them, feeding them, etc. that she can't even find time to devote to herself for exercise, relaxation, her own interests, or even sleep.
I do my best to take over childcare on the evenings and weekends, but the kids are still around the house the entire time so she doesn't really get much of a respite. To make matters worse, she spends so much time with the girls that they don't really know how good they have it and take her for granted. She handles all of our finances, too. To top it all off, her birthday falls at the end of March, so she always foregoes a birthday present because of fears that we will owe money for taxes (or that we won't have enough money while waiting for our refund).
I have tried to treat her to massages, but she has awful luck and has had 3 cancelled or changed to masseuses that she didn't like at the last minute by the spa. I bought her a package at a different spa, but the staff made her feel so badly about herself that she demanded a refund and refuses to ever go back. My wife has given up a lot of things to be a wonderful wife and mother, and she continues to make sacrifices every single day to make life better for her family. She deserves to get some time for herself by winning this getaway."
